Abstract

In recent decades, several global health challenges have been emerged to face both developing and developed countries. The latest challenge was the outbreak of the new coronavirus (SARS-Cov-19) which caused severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), which affected more than 3,212,993 infected cases with more about 227,784 deaths. Although most of the cases of SARS-Cov-19 are distributed in developed countries, this pandemic pointed to the necessity to establish new health centers and upgrade the existed ones in the developing counties to combat the consequences of the diseases. In addition, these centers should be equipped with the research core facilities that can perform research in a controlled biosafety environment. Indeed, cutting-edge research requires state-of-art infrastructure as well as a well-trained junior researcher under the supervision of a senior researcher. Therefore, we do believe that center of excellence is a must to establish in developing countries especially in Africa. In this opinion paper, we highlight the importance of the center of excellence in biomedical research.
